Well today my family and I were going out on a little trip to Halifax today, to do some shopping, to see the city and whatnot.
And I got lucky when my dad agreed to go out a ways to a neat little train store called George's Model Trains. If you're ever around, check it out. A good deal of discount used equipment, as well as the new stuff.
Anyway, I found this Athearn heayweight buried under some other passenger cars. Brand new, and only $9! It's still listed on the Athearn site, and as $17.

And, I found this Tyco F-9 standing proudly on display. And all for the amazing sum of 15 bucks!

It's missing traction tires, and it's a little noisy until about 50% power. Then it runs smooth as silk. And I can't explain the spots around the edges, but I like how it looks and I'll leave it as is.
I saw some other stuff I'd love to have, but I could barely afford those two as it is. Major funding issues right here.

| Good finds Adam. I hear you on the "funds"--same here = NONE for trains at this time. I have seen Georges ad in MRR. The closest full train shop only is an hrs drive either direction from where i live.

Cool finds. Those Athearn passenger cars are nice..I've got a diner like that in CN.
You're F9 is MU-2 powered right? You can use hair elastics from Walmart as traction tires...you just need to cut them with a sharp pair of scissors to make them thinner.

Wow, two-tone Santa Fe cars... Nice catch!
I just got bumped up to Hudson status... 400 replies/comments... wow, two years.
Anyway...
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

I also saw a Penn Central C430...I get the impression C430's are rare? Is that right?
Anyways, even if I knew, I wouldn't have bought it. It was in really sorry shape. In fact the power truck was replaced with an EMD style one, painted black. I didn't get too good a look at it though.
