Hope we've got a DCC person who can help on this one...
I have a friend with Athearn Genesis F-units that seem to be TOO LOUD with respect to sound volume on their factory settings.
Anybody know some CV numbers to plug in that will bring down the volume level on these Genesis F's???
Thanks

I have a few DCC sounders, but not a Genesis. I think most Genesis locos use an MRC unit, which is what I just bought, but I don't recall the volume CV off-hand. I'll have to look in the manual later.
I do know that the Proto/QSI units have a "half-volume" setting that's assigned to F (hmm, 8)? by default. Personally, I find the CV tables supplied with most manuals to be very confusing at times; fortunately I like the volume out of the box for the most part.
If I get some time to look I'll let you know. There should be a CV table supplied with the loco, though.

I did get a response from someone on the Atlas DCC Forum...
Apparently a generally loud output on Athearn Genesis F-units is common and perhaps a drawback to the MRC sound unit.
Was told that you remove the Genesis F-unit shell and in the middle of the DCC board is a pot that can be turned down/counterclockwise with a Phillips screwdriver. The pot is again somewhere in the center of the board and of a brighter color metal. If I get a chance during this surgery, I'll snap a pic and post it for everyone's benefit.
As nice as the Genesis F-units look, maybe they have the right to talk as loud as they wish, no? [}:)]
