I have a Canadania boxcar, (got it as a family Christmas exchange gift many moons ago) and was wondering exactally what it was/ is. I saw the mention of the Canadania Alco and Shark, and this has been a pressing question since I got it.
(for the record, I can't spelll tonight!)

Tyco made several Canadiana products in the 70's. They had an Alco C430, a 50ft boxcar, a streamlined cupola caboose, and a Shark Nose diesel. These products, as far as I know were only sold in Canada. The Shark is the most rare of all these Canadiana pieces. The boxcars and caboose pop up quite frequently on Ebay as well as the slightly scarcer Alco, but I have yet to see a Canadiana Shark.

P.S.-the alco and caboose are in my display pic.

So, here's the nickle .95 question. How did my cousin, who was 12 at the time, get that car? We grew up in Pa. and at the time, Canada might as well have been the moon! What was the background on these items, just a way to complement the Bicentennial stuff that flooded the U.S. market?

| The Canadiana Boxcar was widely available. It was a billboard car...starting with the '77 catalog.

If you look on Tony C's website, it says only the boxcar appeared in a catolog. It is very possible that some of these Canadiana pieces, especially the boxcar, made there way into the states, but they were originally made for and sold in Canada. I'm not sure if Tyco made them to compliment their Spirit of 76 line, but if you look at the 76 and Canadiana Alco, they are quite similar. They each have 2 stripes and 3 stars/mapleleafs in each stripe. They both have a decal in between the two stripes and on the nose.
