Try this. Run your Tyco for twenty minutes under full load at 6 notches. Stop the engine, pick it up, turn it upside down, and hold it under your nose. Now take a big wiff......... Ahhhhhhhhh........

I also remember the whining noise of the PT motor in my Amtrak F9.
That engine ran every Christmas for about 8 years without and problems.
Sure does bring back memories.

And to think people spend a ton of cash adding sounds to their silent, odorless, can motored diesels.

Writing about that smell is what got me into college! Seriously - Illinois Tech wanted writing samples and I explained how my burned-out Tycos begat a fascination with all things mechani-lectrical that lasts to this day!

Unfortunately I had to be an idiot and pursue computers as a career... sigh...
