....so says the license plate frame on my daily driver. Which is not really true of course. But I had to get it anyway. My excuse would have been, "It doesn't say what SCALE that locomotive is now does it? [:P]"
But, over the past few weeks I've been working on another car that's almost as BIG as a locomotive (it uses almost as much gas, at least)!
BEFORE: Abandoned from 1991 thru June 2008:

AFTER: July 2008

1975 Lincoln Continental Mark IV. It was my Father-in-Law's car (I guess it sorta still is, although they keep calling it "mine" now LOL, I guess because none of their own children had any interest in the beast); a daily driver from 1975-1991. It was "parked" in 1991 and festered until the end of June this year. I'd had my eyes on it for years, but for various and sundry reasons couldn't do anything about it till now. It has several various minor issues but runs great and is all-original with 80K miles.
It's a fun car... a big ol' tank that FLOATS. I just try not to look at the fuel pump when the time comes.
So that's one of the reasons I've been MIA this time. Sorry for the car-spam. We now return you to your regularly scheduled ?? programming.

NICE MACHINE !!!
Then again I never met a Ford product I did not like (except the Pinto)
Problem is I remember when that car was new.
I enjoy car shows also and used to attend a lot more of them but the price of diesel fuel went crazy and I cut back drastically this year.
With the exception of a few long distance shows we just stay local with our 56 F-100
Below is a special picture for me...it was at this show (in the flea market) that the "little squirt" in the picture talked me into buying him a Model Power Metal Train and the rest as say "is hizzzstoreee" This was June 2nd 2007 near State College Pa and we have bought a "few"more HO items since then. Just great on the Lincoln, nice to see someone restoring an old car...here is my contribution...Chevy to keep the score even..1989 corvette with 20k...has all the labels still and owners manual...only thing I changed was the wheels, still have the originals and added a few goodies...motor reworked to 330 hp and around 400 foot pounds... should do well pulling a few freight cars? the fanged one...Garret

Hi all,
don´t have a private car, but a company one with permission to use it on private purpose as well.
It´s a 150hp BMW 118 Diesel, runs 220kph (140miles/hr.), which is legal in Germany and a lot of fun. Fuel? 5.8litres/100kms...
Cheerio,
Martin

Wow, some nice rides here. I like the wheels on that 'Vette... I've been wondering what black ringers would look like on our black T-bird. And that F100 is a classic! Looks great with its load and "driver" too.
Ken... love that car... have always loved the Mercedes 4-doors from the 70's-90's. Looks great for being almost 20 years old. But the steering wheel is on the wrong side [:P]
Gareth... I think that's about the best comment I've read anywhere. Thanks [^]

| I almost fell over when I saw that big Ford! I thought I was the only crazy one (of course, we all like Tyco!). I have a '76 Mercury Cougar, only slightly smaller than your Ford. Has 39K orig. miles. It's sweet, but but I can't keep the air conditioning 'throttle valve' from going bad--and it's hot here in Texas! Chris

To reassure the forum members and to segue back to main topics of this forum allow me to present one of the Circlez other projects of this summer. I sent Tony this, with it's tender. It appears to be a common Mantua 0-4-0 Roundhouse Goat in really pitiful condition.

It comes back to me looking like this… It turns out to be a pre-war example of the Goat distinguished by the brass frames on both loco and tender, I find the contrast in the size of these projects to be quite amusing.

'79 Ford Thunderbird... 5.L 302 Powder Blue 25-30 mpg highway cold factory air
I bought it in 1996 with it having only 90,000 miles... no rust (rare for Wisconsin auto's) yes... a real dreamboat!
Changed it to synthetic oil with two filters (means that I ran it in winter without having to change the oil until Spring)
Continued to give me 25-30 mpg... but I had to run it on medium or higher octane. The 1979 Ford Thunderbird was Lee Iocca's last car developed for Ford when he became fired, and then hired on to save Chrysler's crashing debt. Lee's salary was $1.OO. The '79 T-Bird was the last "big-boat" Thunderbird... and you could work on it because it also was the last car built without electronic ignition.
I did, however, had a run-in with a semi-truck... My car damage: both bumpers pointed straight down (then fixed a bit) and front driver fender bashed, rear right fender bashed, and left rear tire rim bent. Repairs: less than $100.
Damage to semi-truck: battery boxes torn up, non-leaking 2 foot gash on driver-side fuel tank... Repairs: $15,000.
My car: just over 2,000 pounds Semi-truck: 50 Tons
Sorry, I know this doesn't really qualify for this posting. But, as long as we are talking about auto's, I'd give my testimony... and reminisce...
[|)] John p.s. does any model maker or die-caste producer make a 1979 Thunderbird?
By the way, if you took the Thunderbird and Lincoln and mixed the parts, you would have an LTD! Me and Thee:
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Zeb,
Lindberg made a 1/32 plastic snap-together model of the '78 T-Bird. These are fairly rare and command a good price as models go (so does their 1/32 Ford Granada, of which I have 3).
More recently, Motor Max (of HO Fresh Cherries fame) did a 1/64 diecast in their American Graffiti line, available at some major stores. But this has been over a year now and I have yet to find one. But I have seen them on ebay. They actually look kind of weird.
The "baskethandle Bird" is one of my favorites. But if I ever got one I would have to cut T-tops in [;)]

Nice vehicles all. So this topic is a little off but all can relate and it has generated replies and been re-freshing--at least for me[:D]

| Brian - does your truck's 460 have that boatanchor Motorcraft 4350 carb? I've already encountered and have been told / reading about some interesting... traits... that carb has. Apparently it was such junk that Ford quit using it on the trucks by the late 70's; why they left it on the cars is a mystery! But it would be nice to know firsthand if this is true. [:D]

Thank you Ken and thank you Carl T, However, the kudos belong to GIC. He cleaned the critter up and took the pictures too. I posted here so that all would know that Tony L hasnt given up workin on the istsy bitsy machines!
I note that folks that collect Tyco also seem to prefer big old iron for their drivers. Those Stateside and in Canada latch on to Ford big blocks, Do you think its genetic or are we all a bunch of masochists? The next time a modeler bad mouths your Tyco Power Torque, check to see what hes driving Betcha its some kind of bowtie product! Some folks will never learn what good is

On a quiet night - you can hear a Chevy rusting. Chevrolet metal rusts faster than any Ford. Take any 79 chevy with original fenders and bed and park next to mine--The chevy's fenders will be rusted out--mine are original--no rust through. I am a Ford Truck man and will say this--Ford spelled backwards = Driver Returned On Foot.

HEY HEY HEY!!! Easy on the Chevrolet`s here. I bought one recently and most of my money is going into it on stuff like new tires and goodies to improve preformence ect ect ect.....
Its got the 5.7 in it (350) with edlebrock duel headers with 44 series flowmasters. I can creep up as quiet as a cat or bark when I want it to. Plenty of power too and recently instaled a K&N cold air intake. All this Ford talk has me kind of down so if anyone wants to rag on a Chevrolet come ride in mine. I`ll put a 100$ bill on the dash and if you can grab it you can have it. You`ll be plastered in the seat befor ya know it ....lol

My A-100 has a Chevy motor in it too. (a V-6) I've been a Chevy owner/fan since the mid 70s. I had a big block 68 Camaro, a big block 69 Camaro and a 69 Camaro convertible. The big block 69 Camaro was set up for the drag strip. I worked at a machine shop that built race car engines and sprint cars so I learned a lot of neat tricks and had access to the machines to do them. Later on I had a 75 and 76 Nova that I built up that both had 350 small blocks that I built. I sold all my Hot Rod stuff in the late 90s. I've had Fords and Chryslers too. I restored a 55 Plymouth. It had a flathead 6.

The GOOD, the BAD and the UGLY....After I see all the digs on Fords, Chevys & Pontiac's I would like to share some pictures of my Pontiacs & tell what life was like in the car craze yrs of America, I turned 16 in 1955 which put me at the right age to really be caught up in the car craze of the mid 50's & it also put me at the right age to grow up with the Golden age of model trains in the late 40's & early 50's naturally when Lionel, Flyer & Marx were the top names in trains , Lionel trains were a big part of my life growing up until I reached 14 yrs of age & put the trains on the back burner & than came the car craze & Cars became the one big thing in life & I saw the coming of Fords Overhead valve V-8 motor in 1954 which was a disaster for that yr as it has a lot of problems & than in 1955 Chevy with its OHV V-8 which was a winner & all of a sudden street racing became very popular in my area between the Fords, Chevys, Pontiacs, Olds, Plymouth, Dodge & etc , back than I was a very hard core Ford person & had my share of the old flathead fords which could not run with the 55 & 56 Chevy's & in 57 with Chevy's popular 270 hp became king of the street racers & what a lot don't know that later on Ford came out with there version of a 270 HP motor which was the 312ci with a solid lift cam, flat top pistons with two 4 bl Carbs & also with a 300 HP 312ci with a Super charger installed from factory, not many made but they were faster than the 270 Chevy, I put a 312 Ford with the cam, lifters, pistons & carbs in a 1951 Ford that ran well & was a fun car & as yrs went on I got tired of seeing the tail lights of the Chevy's & Pontiacs in my Fords so in 1966 I bought a 66 Pontiac GTO with the 3 deuces, 4 speed & 390 gears & now I finally had a car that ran with the best on the street in my area, it was not the fastest car on the block but it was also not the slowest & I can say it won more than it lost & I have stayed a Pontiac person to this day, Here are pictures of my Pontiacs which I call "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly", the 68 Catalina was a one owner 50,000 mile car that I bought around 1989 & drove it to work for the next 10 yrs, the 66 GTO was also a one owner car that I bought in mid 80,s & frame off restored it & made it exactly like my original 66 GTO & the Ram Air was a new car in 1996 & have to say it is the fastest car I owned, hate to say that because it is not a Pontiac motor but its the truth, I did not buy but Pontiacs because I thought they were Cadillac's as a caddy does not fit my life style, I bought Pontiacs because I liked there looks & performance, I could probably write a book on what life was like in the drag racing world of the 50's & 60's when 90 % of racing was on the streets & high ways, of course there were not as many cars on the roads beck than as is today & it was easier to get away with it back then. Trains & cars do go together in with many of us today, not only Tyco but Lionel, Flyer, Marx & etc but I do see the younger crowd being in Tyco & cars all because of HO being the popular gauge in the 70's & 80's , it was a fun time to be able to grow up with Lionel trains being a big part of my life in the 40's, some don't realize back than there was no TV to watch, no video games to play so trains were a big part in keeping be occupied, we didn't have a TV until 1950 & than it was a small 9" screen with about 4-5 channels to watch which was full of snow ( no clear pictures like today ) & than to grow up in the 50's with the cars, the music & etc & into the 60's with the muscle cars coming into play, Hope there are some Pontiac fans here in the Tyco Forum that enjoy these pictures and hope they open up. They might not show up without clicking on the attachment. I'd appreciate it if you let me know if you see them or what we're doing wrong. Abe

That is one amazing Goat, ABE!
It's even got a six-pack. That's one of my favourite things about the GTO, the three carbs in a row like that.
What year is yours? I know it's not 1964, which is the coolest in my opinion, but they remained very similar so there isn't one I don't like.

Matt, It is a 1966 with the 4 speed & the Factory Tri-Power set up with a factory rating of 360hp, the GTO's were a fun car in the 60's as were most all Muscle cars back than, things were made a lot better back than including most HO trains, of course thats my own opinion, Thanks for comment on the car,...Abe

I got the titles for the other 2 vehicles that were abandoned in my yard, A 72 F-350 and a 98 Eclipse Spider.
