Hello All-- Picked this up today because I like the looks, runs great, and model has great quality....but I don't even know what it is! It's made by Fleishmann. I may not even keep this, if anyone is particularly interested.

The Swiss NoHAB C-C, one of the best loved diesels in Europe, or at least it seems that way. I eventually would like to add one to my stable to round out my European fleet.

Hello,
actually this is not Swiss, it´s Danish. And it´s a Nohab. The Swedish company Nohab produced these engines under license from EMD for the European market. Although, they did not run in Sweden, but in Denmark, Belgium, Norway and Hungary (right, this one was east block then...).
The Inside of the loco was similar to the classic F7, only the carbody had to be changed due to loading gauge and the preference of two cabs in Europe. It ran on A1A trucks, thus reducing axle weights.
The Australian Victoria Railways B-Class was a close relative of this Nohab, with same lower body, two cabs, but a F7-like face.
Fleischmann in Nuremberg produced these in different versions since 1961.

| Thanks, All, for the information. Looks like I found a little gem, body is all-metal, headlights work, has window glazing, handrails, and intake screening. If anyone has an idea of value, would appreciate it.

Hi,
the value for this beauty is something around 150 US$.
One more pic, dont be shocked if you see the current look of this loco in real life:

For those with some knowledge of German language, or knowledge how to use babelfish, see this about the history of the model:

| Thanks, Martin67, for the info. Did GN really buy this, or is that a fantasy paint scheme?? I love the value you estimated, somewhat more than what I paid!

Hi Adams,
Nice loco! It kind of reminds me of the locos they called BABY FACE here in the states. I'm not sure of the real name or mfr.

Adams, what is the drive like? Does it have the standard centrally mounted motor powering both trucks?

No, GN didn´t buy this loco. It belongs to Swedish "TABAG", a private Railway, who bought this engine second hand from Danish State Railways some years ago. It was then painted in the GN-pumpkin scheme to honour the american history of the engine and to advertise TABAG as a "great northern railway".
The drive of the model is somewhat similar to the lima drive, a pancake motor driving the wheels of one truck. But it´s much smoother.
Cheerio,
Martin

I never expected to see one of those locos in GN colours. Funnily enough, there's an Australian loco currently in Louisville & Nashville scheme, for the upcoming movie "The Pacific". http://www.steamrail.com.au/gallery/v/rollingstock/operational/motivepower/diesel/S313/?g2_page=2
If anyone had wondered about my B 67 identity, here's a photo of the restoration project currently sitting in my backyard.

This is the remains of one of the Victorian Railways B class that Martin mentioned. Several are still running though.
Sorry, getting very off topic. So I won't even go into the "Great Northern" that we had in Australia until a few years ago.

Wow, want to have this in my backyard as well (o.k., need a backyard first....). How come you got this cab?
The VR paint scheme always reminds me a bit of the first Santa Fe Freight colours they used on F-units.
Cheers, I now go for a barbie and a cold beer,
Martin

Long story as to how I got it. Shall leave it for another day. [:D]
The VR paint scheme (of which my cab shows a very faded version) may have had similar colours to the early Santa Fe scheme, but the design was based on the Erie scheme.
If you click the link to the Steamrail S 313 in L&N scheme, then click on one of the links to the first page and you'll see the same loco in that early Santa Fe scheme too. Oddly enough, in New South Wales, they used the same design, but in tuscan, rather than blue. The Steamrail one was only intended to be temporary. One day they may stop playing games with paint schemes and actually paint it in the original VR colours.
I'll certainly be doing that to my cab, once the warmer weather returns.

| The Virginian railroad is what popped into my mind when I saw that cab. I once saw an article in Model Railroader where a man put a cab in his building, and controlled his model railroad from it!

I saw that Model Railroader article too. The guy put the cab in his basement and made a replica carriage to go beside it. Gave me all sorts of ideas. But sadly I don't have any suitable indoor location for mine.
Someone told me there was a follow-up article - he's moved house and taken the cab with him. Unfortunately I don't have the issue that the follow-up appeared in.

Great Northern... basement locomotives...
This response may be shifted a bit. Perhaps it will also be appropriate.
Great Northern, of the US had an electric version of similar shape, built from two F-3's back to back resulting in an odd looking double ender bull-dog nosed locomotive... 3011? Some number like that.
The basement locomotive story... The man in the MR mag' first had the cab of the locomotive (KCS?) placed with-in the foundations of his home... BEFORE his house was built above it! Could you imagine this?
We are a peculiar bunch of folks...
and now... a word from Droopy... "You know what? I'm happy."
I can hear his voice now.
Nice model railroad fodder!
John/Zebrails
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

I have had a Fleischmann 0-6-0t for many years. It has a loco number only. The prefix is the same for all of it's type, 80. It's sufix is 005. # 80-0005, Deutscha Bundesbuhn, BD Nurnberg, 8w Ansbach. I have keep it in a box all apart. It is proaly from the 60's or 70's. Last week I put it back togethed again. Their are two problums. One extra part, and and two broken gears. The previous owner tried to run it with all axels siezed. The ideler gears that go between the drivers are missing teeth. This if ok would keep all three axels turning together, properly quartered. Latter today I'll put a photo or two in if I remember. frank
