Hey Guys:

Just out of curiosity does anyone have any MRC/Lima units and if so what and how do you like them... Hypo and I aquired some of their 420's recently and I'm just interested to see what others experience is...

My very first electric train was a Lima set with this same 0-4-0T loco, mine was NYC though. Unfortunately it made a strange noise when going backward and my mum took it back and exchanged for a larger set with the tender version of the same loco (in plain black, no roadname). Long gone now, but I've seen others over the years through my shop. So far I've resisted the temptation to try and obtain examples of all the old Lima models I once had as a kid in the 70s. If I ever see an example of the same sets I had, it will be difficult not to buy them. [:D]

Kinda neat;

Side tank (Pannier) with what appears to be a Belpaire firebox.

Here are 2 Lima locomotives purchsed in 1985. Both are excellent runners--but not good for long heavy trains--good for fast short hauls--both have traction tires. i would not even know where to look for replacements tires as these 2 have different tires on them.

Hello,

sorry, only the black Seaboard is from Lima. Is it custom painted or original? Lima actually had a SCL C420 in one of their catalogs in the 70s, but Ive never seen one of these models.

The grey Family Lines Alco is from Roco in Austria and was sold through AHM.

Martin--Thank You for correcting me--I listed those when i was tired and wasn't paying attention. The SCL- original or custom- i do not know. The yellow paint on bottom of hand rails is very shiney--that looks like it may have been done by previous owner at time i purchased. It is an excellent runner as is the Roco. The SCL looks original--would be nice to see that catalog listing of this engine. I have not to date seen either listed on ebay.

Hey Brian:

I have four of the MRC 420's, well three 1 just left town to Hyponerea, a UP version.

Are yours the earlier one truck only power type? Makes a big difference in pulling power. I'm building up a three unit LV Yellow Jacket set and going to regear for more prototypical speeds. They are too fast out of the box.

G-- It is the single power truck. You are right -- it is a very fast loco. i am missing some railings on mine-- they fell off as they are fragile plastic. i need to make some out of metal unless i can gete a kit somewhere.
