Wow...that's a mess, you do not want to tangle a car and a train...car will lose every time..Garret

UPDATE -- The death of these 2 women was a co-worker i work with relatives. The lady driving the car was his sister and the daughter of her his niece. Irony to this--Her son was killed 6 years ago by a train 8 miles uptrack. He had helped a friend to move and the phone was not working. The house he was at -- was just off the mainline track near a curve, He began walking to a store to call his mother(above individual killed). HE stepped onto the tracks and did not hear the train appraoching as it rounded the curve. The funeral for the 2 women is Tuesday June 16th 2008 in Gastonia. THe local paper reported that crossing arms were working properly at time of accident. The railroad also has had signall maintainers at the crossing 24 hrs a day since accident timing trains from activation point to the crossing to make sure siganls aren't malfunctioning as reported day of accident. The 2 women were on the way to the hospital to join relatives for a birth. THe baby was born at the time the older lady died according to the paper

sorry to hear about this.

That car got minced...

Here's a photo of a folded compact car of the 1980's... no matter how much metal your car has, you'll never win the race.

Like the officer said, "Blinking Red Lights and lowered arms mean stop and do not cross the railroad."

I learned that the arms are powered in the "up" position by a motor, so that, in the event of a power outage, at least the arms would fall to protect any would be violators crossing. To protect the auto drivers!

Just doesn't make sense to thwart the dangers and throw caution to the wind. Marked or unmarked, railway crossings should always be observed before the auto crosses them.

John

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.
"I love your catenary!"
Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Thats so sad.......
Years ago when I was a volunteer/member at Illinois Rwy Museum, we were walking an F7 up a track to park it...a loose joint caused the front axle to derail at about 2 or 3 mph...it turned about 6 ties into toothpicks....trains are nothing to mess with.....VERY SAD...
