I finally got my new board up on legs, and running. As seen in the photo, it's a sort of inverted figure eight, with 2 passing sidings (one on right not completed yet). There is also a connection track in the upper left, and will eventually be one on the lower right. I put the whole thing on casters, for easy movement around the garage. It has 18" radius curves, with 22" on the upper right and lower left to let the trains "stretch their legs" a bit. Check out the next reply to see the control panel.

Here is the control panel--I used a strip of aluminum, painted clear to avoid oxidation. I taped off the schematic, "painting" it with a wide permanent marker. Turnouts are operated with red and black momentary contact buttons, and blocks are controlled with SPDT toggles, that will enable two cabs to operate separately.

| Nice benchwork there. I appreciate the control panel; I would like to do something like that but I don't have the patience. Atlas modules got me up and running quickly. But I did add some custom switches for Analog / DCC conversion and the like.

Hello All--Time for an update on my 'new' layout...the one seen above on this topic. As much as a liked the idea of 2 passing sidings, a diamond crossing, and the really cool control panel I made, It couldn't do what I wanted, i.e. have a solid run with 22" minumum radius, not short out my new British models with wide wheels, and be able to operate in a somewhat realistic manner (besides watching 2 trains pass). So, simpler, but better, I think. You can see that I have an outer loop of 22" radius. A switch leads off the main (left rear of photo) to give a connection to the rest of the world. The inner loop (the branch line) connects to the outer via a crossover. On the back side of the branch is an electric switch which will lead to a mine or something. With careful placement of insulated joiners and use of Peco power-routing switches, I do not need any block wiring or electrical switches. At least 2 locos can be on the table at once, and either can get to any spot on the layout. Generally, freight can be brought from the outer spur to the branch, and a passenger train can run the outer main, dropping off cars for the branch loco at the crossover. I have only set down some temporary scenery so far. Notice the holes in the front fascia (sob..) where I removed the control panel.
