Hey,

Though this item is beyond expensive, for the grown up TYCOnaut it is also too cool. Heljan will soon offer an HO-Scale Operating Conatiner Crane for ONLY $750 retail...

It looks very cool. Though I know many will stick with the TYCO Operating Piggyback Loader/Unloader. [^]

Here's a link that provides some more detail on the Heljan unit...

[:0] Wow! The looks!

[:0] The price!

You know, that actually makes me appreciate the Tyco overhead (can never tell if "operating" means the powered mega-forklift or overhead unloader sets) even more. Heljan's sample image gives some good ideas for dressing up the Tyco overheads, which really were very nice and very similar for next to nothing in comparison. The most constraining feature of the Tyco overheads is their stationary (non-wheeled) mounts... but if you put two or three of them in a row it makes for an impressive scene AND some interesting operational possibilities.

The Heljan offering is exquisite but, as you've both pointed out, quite beyond all but the most flush HOers budget (I won't be owning one anytime soon I'm sorry to say.)
The lighting is something we might be able to incorporate to great effect with the old Cox and AHM cranes. With regard to Circlez' comment about the possibilities inherent with multiples of the old Tyco offering I'd encourage a look at the Lima container crane as well. It is larger, a bit more amenable to detailing and still accomodates the Athearn, Tyco, ATT and Cox trailer/container/flat set-ups. (Unfortunately, the Lima is fixed as is the Tyco. It IS, however, a two-track set-up like the Heljan, and it aint no $750 or even half of $75.) They are OOP but do show up on-line.
Now if I could only psychically-divine lottery number picks...
