| They have a good selection of EMD and GE export locos! I do not think I have ever seen those offered in plastic. Heck, I don't recall EVER hearing about those being available in any material! But they are rather high priced. You might want to try picking up a Walthers Alco FA1 instead of the ones they have. The Walthers loco even come with the same motor and costs about $36!

Hey Ken,
Thanks for that second link! I did not realize there were two price lists. The one I looked at had the diesels all costing $90-$115. Prices are still a bit high for me, but maybe I will save up for a G12 or U5B.

The fidelity on some of the models (like the 3-bay hopper) seems kind of lacking, but others do look good. You can see hollow underframes on some so these are definitely not the same quality as other stuff on the current market.
The drives actually seem very similar to the newer IHC models (with flywheels added). Not necessarily a bad thing.
I like the export locos. Are the U5B and U20C actual GE U-series locos?
If those prices on the USA site are current (is that site even legit? Typos and engrish abound...), I might enjoy a couple of those Cement cars for the sheer "What the -?" value. Maybe even paint one of them like the Wienermobile and assign it to mustard plant service [:D]

hi young man,not sure of anything on this site,we in uk have a dealer awaiting his reply on his stock, unknown quantity regarding locos, but come with detail and crew from what i gather, just felt i would ask others who may have tried, earlier items were brass and handmade, these are plastic bodied hence the lower price ken http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4OuP0gDLL8

Sent the US site an email to all three addresses, and immediately got a bounce-back undeliverable from one of them. Given the poor presentation of the site, I'm not holding my breath on the other two. But I do hope they are still available.

Hey GIC,
I can not find much regarding the GE export U-boats. I have a single photo of a U6B. It is owned by Santa Maria Valley and the photo shows the U6B being dwarfed by a GE 70 tonner! It is one small loco. Actually seems about the size of an industrial loco. I have nothing on the U20 though. I do like the look of it!

Shaygetz: Ah, my wienermobile concept makes sense now, eh? *G* Kids would love that.
That really is an interesting car. Would just need to be "north americanized" a bit but still fairly plausible.

| Interestingly enough, I'm the owner of Hobbies Plus, the shop in that first link. I'm Frateschi's wholesale dealer in Australia. The prices on the site are in Australian dollars (retail). Frateschi's earlier models are relatively cheap, but the later ones, such as the heavy electrics are much more expensive, unfortunately.

Yeah, I haven't received any replies to the email inquiries I sent, so it looks like that's a no go. Pity, some hotdogs on in the consist would have been fun.
B67 - about how much would it cost to purchase and ship a couple of those to the US? I'm hoping the USD isn't as worthless down under as it is in the rest of the world now (no offense)...

Tony, I shall have to get back to you on that one. I only have one or two of those in stock right now.
The AU$ buys a lot more US$ than it did a year or three ago. So I suspect my next Frateschi shipment will see some significant price drops. When I first got some, the AU$1.00 bought about US$0.60. Now it is closer to US$0.90.
If you don't have any luck obtaining them locally, I should be able to work something out for you. Keep in mind though, that it has to be shipped here from Brazil and then to you in the US. Postage from Australia isn't too bad though, so the cost shouldn't be too frightening. I'll find out when I'm back in the shop.

Hey Ken,
Thanks for the link to Miami Trains! They do show some prototype info on the GM and GE export diesels. Alas, none are in stock so no price is listed.

The postage cost for a couple of those cement hoppers from Australia to USA will set you back all of AU$8.80. Air Mail of course.
And yes, I do only have two of them left.
Frateschi only make what their distributors order from them. And they don't seem to have minimum orders either. If I only order 1 or 2 of a particular item, they seem to have no problem supplying that number.
Just send me a PM or contact me through my website if you'd like to order them. I only posted here in case others were interested in knowing the cost from down under. [:D]

Finally received a very nice reply from Miami Trains:
quote: Tony, I apologize for missing your email. We have not updated any of the website's at this time and have not ordered any new stock. Unfortunately the rising prices have made importing the trains too expensive for a hobby. I checked through the old stock we have left and I did not see any of the Cement Cars, they are a hot item and sell fast. There are a few other dealers left in the USA, perhaps they can help you or you may try contacting the company in Brazil, they may sell to the public at this time. Sorry I couldn't help you, if I locate one I will pass the information on to you. Thank you, Dean |
Fooey. Oh well, not their fault I guess. Looks like I'll have to go elsewhere. Just posted this in case others were curious.

Hi all,
regarding the Frateschi stuff, in Germany we have a few very active dealers. Maybe you check this:
http://www.modelleisenbahn-haertner.de
Sure, the strong Euro makes everything a bit more expensive, for us in Europe the trains a really cheap (compared to the common european brands).
Hope this helped,
Martin

The Distrubiter for that line was in Newark NY. With the steam Engines, Model Power directly released 4-6-0, 0-8-0, and 2-8-0 types. All used the same boiler and tender. All tender drive. And it is a very good drive. The diesels were Alco FA1's and Baldwin RF16's (sharknose). I have the FA. It was undecorated. I painted it for L&NE.
