Tyco stopped selling trains the year after I was born, so all my stuff is second-hand. The whole reason I started collecting Tyco is because of this one caboose. I started collecting train cars a few years before my parents actually let me get a train set. I got this car at a train show when I was 6. I saw a full Tyco Canadiana train set running at that show and when I saw this caboose on a table I bought it. It took me 5 years to find the matching engine, but once I had that I was addicted...[:D]

A Mantua cabeese rescued from a layout built in a barn. The original owner died 6 years earlier and his family and friends stripped the layout of all sellable locos and cars, leaving the skeleton of benchwork and track and a couple of stray cars to collect dust, rodents and spiders for the next 5 years. There weren't even any windows or a decent patch of roof to protect them. I dusted this one off and touched up its paint, leaving his work alone out of respect for a fallen modeler.

Just acquired this caboose off ebay. Has metal trucks and Mantua metal coupler pockets and hole in floor for light. Light mechanism looks to have been removed at some point by previous owners as it has plastic wheels instead of the metal/plastic wheel combo. Caboose has metal railings on end platforms and cast metal chassis including the steps and platform. Handwritten on bottom is year 1962. This caboose has a nice heavy weight from the metal chassis[:D]

CotW means Caboose or Car of the Week?
If the former, then I have this to share with you...
The good ol' Bobber by Mantua
I have always wanted one since I was 8 years old, and that is almost 32 years ago. This one is "Great Northern"

wholy, is this thing ever rigid! Yet, pullable by knuckle or X2F (horn-hook) coupler.
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

| Brianstyco, Nice old Tyco/Mantua cabooose...it may well have never been lighted, since they used the same frames with the holes for all cabooses. Also, a lighted version would have had window glazing.

Was it plastic or paper that covered the windows?

Zebrails,
Nice GN bobber. I like the way that one looks. I have been told the GN cabeese are about as rare as the C430, but I hadn't realized there was a bobber too. But I do have the 8-wheeler:

Hi Guys:
I have the Canadian Pacific Bobber, which if memory serves came to me via the "Ducky's" (STC, for those of you with no "street Cred" [:D]) shops! [:D] [:D] [:D]

Tony, I can tell you the GN 8 Wh caboose is indeed a rare car to find, it took me yrs to find one as I am told they were only produced two yrs & than it was a for one yr in early 60;s with a all metal frame & either 4 screws or 4 small rivit type pins holding the cab onto the frame & tha later on one more run for a yr with a plastic frame & trucks held on with large rivits, I found my 1st one in AZ at a train meet in Phx in a junk box for a $1.00 & later on found one on ebay which was the plastic frame & thats how I found out of the two versions, I paid $60.00 some dollars for the one on ebay & all because there were more than a few of us Bidding, Reading is also another hard one to find but not as hard as the GN,............................................. | Both my examples of So76 cabooses have the metal handrails and ladders. My FEC has blue stripe in front and Frisco has red. But I've never seen one without stars! Something else to keep an eye out for!
