Hi, My name is George, and I'm from Rochester Hills, MI. I am a retired Logistics employe of GM, and worked on the east coast with the NYC, Reading, Pennsylvania, and Erie RR's. My grandson recently fround an old model train set in our attic that I had purchased for my son about 35 years ago. I got it running, however I purchased a new little yard engine. The original engine, a 4301 Mantua-Tyco PC (green) has one coupler missing on the rear (there is a little rectangular receptable), and the other coupler fouls when passing over an electric switc. It not obvious how I could replace the one, or raise the other. I would like to get this engine running. Any suggestions, and information on how to remove/install other couplers would be appreciated.
Thanks, George

I think Brianstyco has a post on this but I'm not sure where it is.You might look for that. The brass rivet holds the box together at the coupler and I have pried the box open with a small screw driver. I have also carefully drilled it out on the top. Replace with a new coupler, maybe take one from an old boxcar etc., and use pliers to gently crimp the rivet again. I have replaced the entire box with a plastic one from a Kadee #5 coupler pack and superglued it on top of the truck tongue also using an original Tyco coupler. Others I'm sure have used a small screw to reattach the original metal top or attach the plastic Kadee box. The coupler that fouls at the switch may be to low at the metal tongue and could be gently bent upward so that it is parallel to the rails. Good luck on the repair and Welcome.
