Hi. Your engine is an Athearn. I've always wondered why they didn't put "Athearn" on the bottom like most other companies. An easy way to tell though, is if you look at the bottom of the fuel tank, you can see four beige coloured circles that are the motor mounts sticking through the bottom.

Yep, that's made by Athearn. I have the same loco.

Thank you for the info guys !
The engine runs nice and is quite a puller.
Do all Athearn models have the number boards that extend past the car body ? or is this just unique to the Southern Pacific ?
All of the FM Trainmasters I have seen pictures of here on the east coast have smaller boards ...just like the 0 gauge models.
Thanks Bob

This was Athearn's first venture into prototypically correct models. You could buy this in Espee or regular versions.

Bob,
Athearn made this FMTM unit especially for Southern Pacific. You may notice also the dual headlights. It's all original. The one on top much larger than the one lower.
Now, as I see your model, it can't be too old. The flywheels are brass and the motor casing is also made of brass... I am not sure when they stopped making the metal axled models.
I used to have one in Chicago & North Western. It too, was a good puller that kept its speed when climbing up a grade. Also, when these models first came out, you had to bend the vertical stantions yourself. Oh, the misery that was.
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?
