There was no train show today, but I went to my favourite hobby shop, and picked up some nice stuff. I thought I'd post some pics for everyone to see, and maybe help me identify some stuff.
First is this pair of Athearn SP Daylight streamliners.

I'm not sure who this is made by....Mantua?
Then I bought this pair of streamliners. They look like Athearn but they seem to have been assembled and painted by hand, and they have strange couplers.

And finally, I got this numberboard from a CN F-7.

| Is that Tyco/Mantua caboose lighted? Looks like it's rigged to be. Is the floor solid metal or plastic? Some of the early Mantuas with metal floors had a large hole in them where the bulb/socket assembly was screwed to the floor a protruded upwards. I've also seen some kits that had plastic floors and a different type assembly to get track power to the bulb. Is the CP original to the car or decaled? Chris

So it IS Mantua. Ok, that's what I thought. The floor is plastic. There's a large metal weight on the inside. It's very low, and the coupler is below all my other cars couplers...is this normal for these? And yes the CP is original.

P.S. The two streamliners are Athearn kits from the 50's.

| It's difficult to tell by the pics exactly what's going on with the trucks and underframe. I just noticed the metal wheels and maybe some kind of contacts or shims between the trucks and bolsters. They generally rode at an appropriate height. I'm wondering if this has been modified to add lighting. I'd have to dig out my TycoKit caboose model to recall exactly what the lighting setup looked like on the plastic-framed cars. Chris

Hmmm...I don't think its been modified for lighting. The shell has actually been cemented down to the chassis, so I can't get inside, and someone shoved the smoke jack into one of the holes where the marker lights would be (visible in the pic)...now sure what the point of that was....

This may be what you have if it's all original. If it's not rigged for lighting, then I would guess the trucks have been replaced, since one side has metal pickup wheels.
