Now that I've gone crazy w/my new camera, thought I'd post the box cover of my childhood trainset, the discovery of which has led me into this hobby of collecting and running old Tyco. This was a Sears set from possibly the last year of the Red-Box era. The set included everything shown on the box, except it had a Swift reefer instead of the SF box.

Very Aweseome! Just love the old train set box art! TYCO did some great ones during the late '60s/early '70s. The stuff is frameable art!

That is great box art. I agree with Tony, it is totally framable art. I would be tempted to frame the lid and hang it in the train room as long as it wouldn't damage the lid. I also wonder what good digital photos of the lid would look like if enlarged to 8.5 x 11.

Good idea, Alco Fan, about trying a digital pic...I'll have to play around with that. I've thought of trying to display the artwork, but like you mention, I hate to destroy the integrity of the box. I had thought about a 'shadow box' type of frame, which would hold the whole thing....I saw your comment also, Romcat, about when we were young, and I was able to dig up a nice old 110 photo of my dad and I putting together my new train set, which must have been just after Christmas of '70. If I can get my new scanner to interface with my computer (it didn't come a cord), I'll post it. Hey, an idea for a new category on the forum???

The shadow box is what my wife suggested.

I have found that if the digital camera has a decent # of meg pixels then you could conceivably take a close as possible picture and crop it to just show the box cover and then print it on maybe matte or semigloss paper. Taking a pic with low # of pixels and then trying to enlarge it doesn't always give the results you expect, but a large # of pixels could be reduced or cropped to give a very decent result. Just a thought, as I have taken a few pics and cropped them to fit a specific size and it seemed to work well for me.
