Hey guys. I finally started working on my new layout yesterday. I was laying down track (temporaily) just so I could mark where the track bed should go. When I came to a switch, I found 2 problems. (it is an atlas left manual snap switch code 100, item #860)

1) The switch came with a 1/3 18" radius curve piece of track. I want the track coming off the switch to run parallel with the original track. What size curve piece would I need for this??

2) The little tab that sticks out of the switch (the piece that moves side to side when u open or close the switch) is too big, and almost touches the track next to it. Does this piece just pop off?

Hey Cheez.....
2 of tose 1/3 pcs will get you along side perpendicular...as far as the tab..do you mean the throw bar?...the piece that moves the rails?....it depends on the age of the switch...the older ones have rivets...but the newer ones have a little box in the center...and that centers the rails (I think)..that version you can just snap out..CAREFULLY....I usually shorten mine...drill a hole for the CABOOSE ground throw and install..hope that helps

Hey MM1:

Is a Caboose ground throw a "brand" or type of turnout throw?

OK
Yep thats the throw bar...I chop off about a 1/3 of that...A Caboose Indutries ground throw is a larger than scale hand operated switch machine...fastened to the benchwork and connected to the throwbar of the switch...its a hair large but closer to prototype than the machines that come with them...
