Wondering if anybody could help me out with this one. Pictured below is an old Fleischmann Baldwin switcher that I have had for ages. It was originally my brother's of which he received from my father, who bought it in Germany some time in the late 60's. As you can see, it is painted in basic Chicago & Northwestern colors, but with no logos...only an engraved and raised road number 1340 on the side of the cab. This engine is totally made out of metal and originally had European hook and loop couplers. (I replaced them with E-Z mates some time back.) It is made by Fleischmann and has a gear driven metal pancake motor that looks alot like a Tyco power torque...but much more solid. On the bottom of the fuel tank is a tiny hand painted number #817.
This loco runs very well for its age...though it is awful on code 83 track. It runs alot better on code 100. The paint is a bit chipped, but otherwise this thing is a tank!
My questions are the following:
*What kind of loco is this? I know it is a Baldwin, but what model?
*What year was this engine produced?
*Were there any other road names done of this type of engine?
