Found something in a box in the club rummage bin:

My question is: is this Tyco?

The decals and decoration certainly look original. And there's no question that's the Tyco Exxon and Mobil (US1) station kit. I know Life-like made a contemporary Esso station, but LifeLike's pumps were a different design (complete with hoses) AND it did not have oil racks, so its labels wouldn't have fit this tyco kit.

The interior may hold a clue... there is a simulated sign or box with an arrow, with a blue oval that is obviously meant to evoke the Esso oval. Do the Exxon and/or Mobil kits have that same interior detail card?

Tony's site doesn't mention anything about a Tyco Esso station. Anyone have any info?

The tyco station i have and it is from 1982 has the same interior detail. On the bottom does it say pola w germany? Seems most of tycos kits were made by pola. About all of the tyco bldg kits i have with a base say"tyco kit made by pola w germany.

Oh yeah - it's definately Tyco made by Pola (so the base on the bottom says).

I guess I just want to make certain the decals are original Tyco (which I'm inclined to think they are), and not swapped in from another kit.

If that little oval in the window is really meant to tie in, this kit could predate the Exxon version. But that's just speculation. I'm probably going to disassemble and clean it up a little bit anyway.

The Esso decals came from AHM's version of this kit. There is one on eBay right now, hammered box, and the contents are sealed in a baggy, and you can see the Esso decals inside the baggy.

Mystery solved, gang.

Bah.. can't seem to find the listing, but I'll take your word for it. Thanks for the info. Admittedly, the round sticker on the square signboard was kind of throwing me, but everything else seemed to "fit".

Considering how Esso is Exxon outside the US, is it possible that this is a Canadian only variation?

The AHM ESSO gas station is on ebay for 6 more days. I believe this is the kit in this topic, same as the Tyco EXXON. It's at 1 bid for $9.99.

I'll admit I didn't know AHM made that kit, but it makes sense. The rebranding is interesting. AHM had theirs first; I wonder if there was a brand rights or licensing issue when Tyco got it. They obviously picked another brand with similar colors.

Thank you Walt for this bit of info... this is how an auction to a dead thread can be helpful. At least till it expires!

It hasn't been Esso here since about 1970. That station brings back memories.
