Give this a chance. Are you guys going to have trains running under or near your tree? I keep thinking about doing something other than my now standing 4x8 in the basement. Let's hear it!

Mine has 4 independent loops of track, fiber optic lighting in the trees, LED street lights and lit buildings. The buildings are scratchbuilt, Plasticville or Hallmark issues. The tree stand is homemade. I have Marklin tinplate, scale and Tyco running. Off to on side will be a Clementine Gold loader filled with mini M&Ms for the kids to load hoppers with. The base is painted OSB plywood with black roads. I use bathtub caulk to make plowed snow along the roadsides...and all in less than 4' by 3'. Almost ready, I'll set it up Thanksgiving weekend under the tree.

Over the past few years I've been collecting little porcelin Christmas Village houses from Zellers, Canadian Tire, etc.. I have a number of larger battery operated trains that I used to put around the tree, but this year I think I'm going to go with an HO train and my Xmas village stuff. I've got 11 buildings (all can be lit, though I've only got enough bulbs to light 6) and several other light-up accessories.

Haven't decided on a train yet. Probably either a bachman or Tyco Amtrak streamliner.

Way to go guys.
I have a friend who has been setting up a special S gauge layout every year using the ceramic villages, very colorful.
I wish I had added more track to my small layout like shaygetz.
I have another friend who has been giving tours of his HO layout

Just added this to my Christmas train roster...a mint IHC Corkey's Carnival Caravan train set from the 80s. Crispy Crinkles I remember when these first showed up in MR Magazine, I thought for sure the hobby was headed to the dumper. Ironic that I find myself waxing nostalgic over one 25 years later[:D]

Ignore the bag of M&M Mini Baking Bits...they're for my Tyco Clementine Loader and work just great for the kiddies...those that make it to Christmas anyway.[;)]

Neat Shaygetz. Is it 8 wheel drive? Is the top loop from a single peice of wood?

Yes, it is the 8 wheel drive unit. The top loop started out as my first Christmas garden after moving to the Gulf Coast. When I came upon a Marklin post war tinplate setup, I needed more room and so, came up with the second layout...

...using Bachmann E-Z Track for a second lower loop. Frugal minded that I am, not wanting to see a perfectly good loop of track wasted, I carefully cut the first layout's loop out and elevated it over the other two with 1" closet rod piers. When I came up with the third---and final---incarnation last year...

...the upper loop sat out that year in a corner. I added it shortly after New Years day, using piers I had cut from scrap poplar and an arch bridge I made from MDF lumber. This final setup includes 20" radius curves for the larger locomotives I test bed.

BTW...my secret for keeping my Christmas trains running reliably all season long can be seen under one of the carriages being pulled by Thomas. They are made of Masonite and do a slam bang job of keeping the track run ready. I even came up with a magnetic one to avoid irreparably altering a fine antique tinplate car...

I was hoping a post like this would show up haha. I hope to build a small layout to keep my old O-gauge Lionel on. We have two Lionel trainsets in my family, both are probably right around 50 years or so old? My family's original is currently owned by my brother, I have my Aunt's old setup. Regardless I intend to make a small loop for the big Lionel to run on. I grew up with those big loud engines on Christmas. However we have enough spare brass track sitting around, I'm REALLY thinking of making a small inner loop in HO. Shove my Tyco Durango GP20, its matching stock car & searchlight caboose and let it run also. Best part of this is I plan to put it up into the big front window of my house, so passers by can see them ripping by the window

This is my first year for an around-the-tree train. I"m going with a simple oval of track and my newly acquired Lionel GP7. We're using hoppers and a gondola, and we're going to put small presents and decorations in them.
