Ooooh that's cool. The frame is diecast by the looks of it. Is the drive is similar to Athearn's RDC of the era?

Yes. The gentleman that started BART Models purchased the RDC frames from Athearn in the late 1970's. I would assume he received a good price from Athearn on the frames as Athearn had already moved on from the rubberband drive by 1970.

Very cool! I hadn't realized from the first picture the bodies are made of metal (aluminum?). Looking at pictures online, and your paperwork, I notice you could buy sets with the skirts cut-out allowing the trains to take tighter turns. What an interesting idea.

Yes the bodies are aluminum. For my ceiling tracks the smallest radius is 22 deg. I have never tried it on my layout (I had a flood a few years ago and have not had the time to do the repairs to the layout. Its sitting in my garage. One day...). With the rubberband drive the startup is a little jerky, but once it gets to speed it runs very smooth. I use the silicone bands for braces. They work perfectly.

Thanks Chops! I have two sets. The first one I purchased on the evil bay in 1999. I look every so often - they go for alot now - I think way too much. I picked up the second set a a local train show right before the pandemic for $50. I'm sure if someone wants one they will show up at a show. And now the ones from Rapido - unbelievable!
