WKS posted a similar set of Crazy Auctions the other week, and when I clicked on it this one turned up, with box for a mere bill. A couple of Calumet tires and she took off without trouble. The single axle bogies have a curious steering mechanism under each coach- no wonder I had such trouble when I tried to motorized a static Varney that WKS had gifted me a few years ago. (I finally got it right, but it took a few tries).
The previous owner gave her a black stripe...they must have known I'm a PC fan!

My Mantua talgo engine came with "MU" (MU-1) motor assembly with wheels not grooved for traction tires. It ran like a trotter rather than a thoroughbred, so I swapped the MU for a MU-2 assembly with traction tires; now it runs at a very acceptable unrealistic high speed worthy of its streamline appearance.

I was wondering about that, and it couldn't pull its own weight, initially. Fortunately the Calumets went on and left enough flange.

Good score! The Tyco Talgo is still on my hit list, as is the Varney Aerotrain. One day...
Here's Tyco's Broadway Limited set.
