Hi Guys,(and gal)

Just how many variations are there for the 1776 Alco C430?
I think I have 4 of 'em.

5 variations Carl. 1st issue = presidential letter seal loco - blue stripe on nose - striped roof line - mantua drive -- 2nd -- reissued seal - no lettering on seal - blue stripe on nose - striped roof line - mantua drive -- 3rd = round 76 seal on front of engine no stripe - stripe across roof line - non lettered seal - mantua drive. 4th = 76 seal on nose - no blue stripe - solid color roof line - non lettered seal - mantau drive. 5th = Power torque drive - 76 seal on nose no stripe - snap in weight/fuel tanks as all others were screwed into body(transition from mantua/tyco to tyco). All have the U.S. flag under cab window on each side.

Brianstyco,
I have a Spirit 1776 Alco with 5628 number boards,is this a legit variation?
It doesn't look like they were replaced.
And would this make it variation #6?

My President's 430 was personally removed from the shrinkwrap by me, and came with 5628 boards as well. I don't really consider this a variation since it would be easy to create on your own. You could even re-shrinkwrap it. It IS an interesting oddity though.

I would say legit as G-I-C commented. More than likely-those with the 5628 number boards are from the 73-74 years. All of the 76 engines i own - - the Mantua's have number boards where the tyco 76 locos do not have number boards on rear. The tyco is filled in and painted red. I have an Mantua in the box with solid white numberboard and the 4301 in the board is white. The other Mantua's - the 4301 is in black onn white board.
