Here is a recent acquisition I scored for $10. This a Pemco B.N. SD24. This loco runs perfectly, and the direction lighting is fully working too. This is the first Pemco I've had, and based on first impressions I look forward to adding a few more Pemco items to my roster down the road.

My contribution to the LOTW is this unit. I went to the train show with my wife, son and granddaughter. We were browsing a table of inexpensive locomotives when wifey picked this one out. I try to get her something at every show I take her to, and the price was right ($15) so it went home with us. This is a Lackawanna C liner. I must admit to not being a fan of those old AHM units with the huge 3 pole motor geared directly to the axles, and this is what I thought we had. Imagine my surprise when I got home. took a closer look, and found this under the hood.

This is a can motored, 8 wheel drive version of the old AHM unit. In other words, just the sort of thing that will do well onn my steep grades. It has no traction tires to hamper performance, enough weight that it should pull a respectable number of cars up the mountain, and in preliminary tests seems to like my code 83 rail even though it has the older style deep flanged wheels.
I'll have to take a look at what kadees will work in the coupler boxes, and what other mods I;ll need to do to add DCC to it. But so far, I'm impressed with the upgrades Mehano has apparently done to this unit since the 1970s AHM era. This is similar to the retooling that the Bachmann F units underwent some years ago that turned them from pancake motored underpowered locomotives into the smooth running units they are to-day. I guess in the future I'll be looking closer at these units.

Good point, but have you ever seen a train set type loco with an accurate BN paint scheme. I mean Bachmann's were green and silver not green and black, Tyco's had odd placement of lettering, etc.

Wow, I never knew the infamous C-Liner had such a drive system. Nice locos this week, all.

My LOTW is also a train show find - a Lima DC-powered DB Class 103 German electric locomotive! The Class 103 is my favorite foreign electric locomotive, and I'm thrilled to have one in HO-Scale that I can run. Now I just need some DB passenger cars.

One good PEMCO deserves another. I picked this critter up, NOS, not knowing what to expect,
not knowing its Tyco lineage. Danged if this thing doesn't run like a top. I fell in love with its
moderately upgraded styling and its sturdy PT motor, yes, there is such a thing!
