Hello Happy Fellow Members! Because I bought a wonderful Tyco Chattanooga 2-8-0 steam loco, I need bigger curves (20"). So I decided to build another layout: The Longvallon RR.

Witch color for the benchwork ? Burnt Umber, Light Green Permanent or Raw Sienna ?
I already drew a little plan:

Just one layout at a time! I dismantle the last layout to build the next one.

A tall border at rear can add interesting scenery while a short border in the front might avert disaster. From first hand experience it is no fun watching cars accordion and tumble to the floor when your locomotive suddenly stops dead picking a switch.

Oops ! I forgot to mention it: the diesel is made by Bachmann and the caboose by Tyco.

It is also a true F9 unlike the Tyco model. The spotting differences are the big 48" dynamic brake fan on the roof, and the porthole and first vent location on the sides is reversed from the F& which Tyco's "F9" actually is. I run both F7s and F9s on my railroad.

I use a slightly modified stockcar for coupling Kadee/Bachmann couplers and old time Tyco couplers.

After making a lot of big mistakes and a few fatal errors, I'm back on the forum ! I tried to build a new benchwork for my layout (4'x 5'3") but unfortunately it doesn't work as expected It's not stiff enough if you see what I mean.

Interesting design. A few more stringers would not tighten it up?
A lot of modelers are big on using styrofoam for baseboard. I've tried it and found it very unsatisfactory. A guy I know made a module with it, and the ends curled up and killed everyone's trains on the day of the show. Horrible.
conception nteresting.
Horrible.

Well Chris everything was working till the sink hole apeared in the middle of the layout board. It seems you meed some additional support framing. Good luck and i hope to see your layout running again soon. frank
