My Tyco Conrail F9A #4015, with the infamous PowerTorque drive, takes on the figure-8 track on RETRO TYCO.

Very nice layout. Have you screwed or glued the trestles? If not, are they stable? It seems that the trestles support the weight of the trains very well.

I can hardly believe how well RP has got this thing to work.
The PT motor, moreover, is not super strong, or very
durable, yet this lovely F7 takes flight effortlessly.

Fribourg - thanks! I nailed the trestles in place, with small nails. However, because my RETRO TYCO layout has a layer or 2 of construction foam on top of the plywood platform, the nails do occasionally loosen, but are easily pushed back into place. I could obviously just use longer nails to fix this issue.

Chops - Yep, for a powertorque F9, it runs quite well. The key to running any trains on the figure 8 is not to pull that many train cars.

I wouldn't say effortlessly. You can see it bog down a little near the top, But it does work well on the grade for what it is. I got similar results with my Tyco Alcos on a 4% grade. It makes me wonder. If TYco had given the them same upgrade the later Mantua GP20s had, all wheel drive with a can motor and worm gears, how much better they would have pulled? I guess we'll never know.....

RP model railroads: Did you use these parts for your figure 8 ? I can't see them on the video.

The trains run perfectly without these parts as can be seen in the video.
