Two videos showcasing a passenger's and hobo's vantage point through Fog bottom on their respective "magic carpets made of steel".
All filmed with an iphone precariously taped to a flat car...
Enjoy.

Good eyes, but not a Pentatanker. Sadly the Pentatanker was on display at a LHS and was destroyed in a fire! However we went back to work to make an articulated Dodecatanker (12 domes). It is painted and ready for decals but I have not summoned the courage to decal nearly 3 feet of megatanker. . I have to figure out a name and paint scheme for it yet. Probably something Dinoco with the same tagline about Putting a Little T-Rex in Your Tank!

Great perspective in your videos - you have quite the collection of freight cars.

Great videos. Thanks for sharing. Is there a thread about your big layout somewhere ? I really like this car:

You guys asked for it! I will add photos and videos here to document the zaniness at my hobby workbench and at my "layout". I am fortunate to have a pretty big space to host a "Plywood Pacific" layout of three ovals with table top about 5 x 16'. Very flat and very boring, but when I need to hear wheels clickety-clacking over the rails, it provides a very fun miniature world. I am working into almost 50 years in the hobby starting at about 3 years old with a wooden toy train, that actually just resurfaced when we cleared out my Parent's home before moving into retirement quarters. So remember that all the stuff I have amassed has been slow and over a lifetime. And almost none of my hobby purchases or builds has met the "scrapper's torch" or the "Circular File".
An AHM Bicentennial set with a Tony the Tiger red roof plug door sealed the deal for me as a lifelong model and prototype rail enthusiast.
My working career has been in tee shirts, signs and promotional products as a designer and pre-press person, so in my spare time I also do free-lance design work for similar businesses and that has spilled over into custom railroad schemes for my own creations (Jade Fog Chemicals, etc.) and select other projects that have shown up on the smallest to most expansive layouts.
So who here remembers the old Monogram static Hudson HO kits? They make great flatcar loads as if on their way to a museum. Actually, this build was inspired by a video of the articulated steamer being delivered to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad a few years ago.

I built several MDC Pullman Palace cars back in the day, and because of their inferior trucks those actually did meet the scrapper's torch and are no more, but with the addition of Athearn heavvyweight trucks, these are some of my favorite models.

And with all the window spaces they are great candidates for adding interiors, even if the dining tables are a little high!

Here's the monster tanker... 4 Tyco triple tankers were used in it's creation and it rides on the bolster spans from Athearn heavy duty flat cars. A quick disconnect allows for easy separating because I don't want to transport 3 feet of tanker from the layout to its storage tray. That would be like wrangling snakes.
In all its ridiculous glory compared to 50 and 40 foot tankers

I mentioned design so here is a decal sheet layout that provided hours of decal mania

And while I made several oddball pieces from tyco triples I decided that the ROCO heated tanker could provide a very unusual car too.

That's a lot of OJ!
And I'll close out this installment with a historical photo from northern PA where my extended family used to rent primitive cabins by the Pine Creek where the Penn Central hauled freight. Your author is holding his hands over his ears- delighted and frightened simultaneously by the sound of the diesels and horns. Those dirty black engines and white worms in miniature would wind up as Christmas presents over many years.

one wonders what you could come up with using the AHM wine tankers as a base? You know, the ones with six domes?

I have thought about that too. They don’t seem to be as easy to find though. Since they are 40 footers, that’s a lot more sawing!

I envision a 12-15 dome car that's only about as long as a passenger car.
Seriously though, you have me wanting to restart my old hopper car rebuild program where I made shorty 3 bay cars by eliminating one of the bays. This time, now that I know about the proposed Pennsy design, I'd use the removed bay on another hopper to make an offset side 6 bay car.

I see the photos. Perhaps some members may have older computer systems which affect the photos being shown. Or not being shown.

Never mind. I was on a public WiFi, and Imgur was not trusting the public WiFi. I get the pictures at home.
