Those look simply splendid. The question is were these models made when B&O was still a Flying Flag?

Given that GIlbert produced train in the 1950s, yes the B&O was very much alive. The paint scheme used on those F3s would have been still seen, although by the late 1950s a simpified scheme that eliminated the grey was being used. Having grown up in B&O country, I can remember the simplified scheme, and the later solid blue that replaced it, well. But the blue-grey colours were gone by the early 1970s.
Ironically, the only piece of equipment in the blue and grey I ever remember seeing was an old baggage car demoted to work train service that I found badly faded in a train yard when I worked for the railroad. That was in about 2002! The yard had been sold off by CSX to a regional railroad 15 years previous, and apparently the car was sold along with it.

As jward said, yes, B&O was very much alive at that time. Here is some historical information about B&O: https://www.american-rails.com/baltimore.html
Further down in the article are photos of various paint schemes over the years.
While looking for the above, I found this very interesting site that appears to list paint colors used on their layout. The RGB codes may be useful to anyone who is doing custom painting. Not much B&O schemes listed here, though: http://bondystrainz.bondysworld.com/?page_id=3445
Enjoy.

In keeping with the streamlined diesel theme, here is the first Ephrata Valley RR diesel locomotive (F9A #219) with its B-unit #219B, recently dull-coated with Rust-Oleum matte clear coat by me, to match the rest of the EVRR diesel fleet. These are still my favorite pieces of Anderson Shop's work, beings both are Tyco.

Great links, Brian. Thank you. Da Cheez...watcha ya gonna do when they come for you? Da Cheez! Da Cheez!
It's going to be a hard decision, I would reckon, whether to leave the paint chipped original paint or a do-over. What are your thoughts?
Tyco F at 60 SMPH on Jimmy Jame's layout. MU2 motor is odd, as by this time I had thought Tyco had all gone over to the wretched PT (Patooey) motor. Showing her age with the dust accumulation around the horns, she performed like a champ.

Every time I take it out of the box I ask myself the same question. The paint in some places is actively flaking, but it's so cool as it is. It came with a full complement of Sampson streamliners in Empire Builder paint. My hope is to get a large shelf built for it and display it in original condition.

Sampson streamliners??? Yeah, that makes it a tough call. Would a repaint reduce its collector value, like an antique rifle? Tough call. Total mega set.

Luckily it doesn't have much in the way of collector value. I'll probably leave it alone though. If I really wanted fresh paint for the engines I could probably find a similar pair on ebay and just have a duplicate.
Nice streamliner, Mike! Somewhat ironically it's one of the few Tyco sets I don't have. Lived in Canada my whole life and I only ever find the CN cars.

They must be collectible in Canada and relatively hard to find. Here in the States we throw out CN sets along with our Canadian coins!

Well, if you throwing away money, I'll send my address. CN cars... sure I'll take off your hands... or maybe a trade you need...
