Didnt tyco have a draw bridge in their accessories line? I have been trying to find one forever to add to my collection but cant find a trace of one anywhere.

Mr. Wiser:
Don't think there's a Tyco drawbridge but you may be thinking back to Bachmann's really superb (and pretty scarce) offering from seventies:
"HO Remote Control Bascule Bridge." The trains on the upper section of track are automatically stopped if the bridge is up, trains on the lower halt when the bridge is lowered. There is a warning bell that sounds from within the bridge's control house. It is a very slick old operating accessory, certainly contemporary with the Tycos you described in your nifty introductory remarks!

YES! I remember the Bachman drawbridge. That was a great peice and growing up I always wanted one on my Pike but could never find one. bachman used to have a lot of cool stuff back in the 70`s and 80`s like the " CATTLE CROSSING ". I had the oil tank with a diesel horn in it and also the passenger station with steam whistle! Anyways not to get off subject too far I am almost positive Tyco had a drawbridge and when I get time ill look on the back of my boxes to see if maybe they have a picture of one and if I can find it ill scan it ,and post it on here. It really looked good from what I remember, I had only ever seen one on eBay in the box.

Brian here. TYco did not have a drawbridge. They did have a rolling bridge kit # 7792 that was produced from 1976-1979. It does on ocassion turn up on ebay but be prepared to pay $30-$50 bucks for it as i bid on one several months back and it went for over $50 new in box. But note this too- that bridge kit came with plastic rails as i had one when i was younger. It was the same plastic track that tyco's trackside maintenance kit came with. this kit can be motorized also. AHM also carried this kit which is the exact same as tyco's. They too turn up on ebay usually cheaper and you can find motors sometimes listed also for the bridge. Hope this has been of some help in your quest. Check out tyco train resource page for pictures of all action accessories and all tyco bldg kits with pictures and years produced. Tony has done a great job on this listing of all bldgs and accessories.

Hi Wiser,

There is a draw bridge on e-bay at item #190034388059. it is part of a large lot going for $1500.00 at this point. I'm not sure if it's a TYCO draw bridge or not but maybe it's a start for a picture.

Alex:
Havine gone thru the entire Tyco catalog string I believe my first intuition was correct about the absence of a drawbridge from the line.
The only possible culprit is the item BriansTyco already mentioned: that old 47 piece plastic kit repackaged by Tyco in the late seventies as 7792 rolling bridge, the one with the cheesy little plastic crank handle. Brians also observant in pointing out that the AHM incarnation (virtually the same) has a history of fetching substantially less money on internet auction. For my money the Bachmann Bascule is a better (and I believe less-frequently encountered) action accessory (and I'm not a huge Bachmann fan or collector).

Bachmann's bascule bridge does turn up on ebay and has been selling for around$30.00 and higher as i was tracking a few of them. about all of them seem to start out at $9.99 but end up $30-50 range. I never had one but it is a neat item as magnolia academy stated and i too am not a big bachmann collector although they had some neat action accessories such as the bascule bridge-disaster crossing and cattle crossing. but they can not compare to tyco's offerings

So how exactly do you install catenary across a rolling bridge? A swing bridge cheat is not an option on these things.

Looking at the design, closely parallel masts with discreet tabs contacting in the bridge's closed position would be the best bet. The real problem is aesthetic in that clunky wiring would ruin the classic lines of a unique kit.

I'll find room for a rolling bridge somewhere, though. They're too nifty not to!

Can anybody point to a prototype rail bridge that raises so another train can pass underneath.

I've never been able to figure out if the Bascule bridge is reflected in the real world or only in the imagination of Bachmann?

It certainly allows a figure 8 without as severe a grade, which is good from a model train operating perspective.
