Tony C--thought this would be of interest to you and others who are KCS fans-This months TRAINS magazine has an article on page 10 about KCS reopening an abandoned line they purchased from SP.The article says the line is 87.5 miles long. They are in the process of regrading and removing old rails. It was known as "The Macaroni Line" due to it being built by Italian immigrants in 1881 for the New York,Texas & Mexican Railroad. It was recently known as the Wharton Subdivision. This rebuilding is important as it will shorten KCS's route to the Mexican border by 70 miles and eliminate the need for 161 miles of the total 364 miles of UP trackage rights which currently seperate The mainline of KCS between KANSAS City and Beaumont TX as well as other cities and towns.
