All the banter about the McDonald's kit many months ago led me to obtain a few FreeZee Ice Cream kits, which are nearly identical. Was going to convert one but the appropriate "donor" McDonald's pieces to cast never did turn up.
So, I made one into what I grew up familiar with. Those old-school sheds that opened up decades with a gigantic sign that probably cost more than the building itself even then, soldiering on with a coat of grime, too close to gentrification and industry for its own good, but happily serving the neighborhood.
BEFORE:

This really is a neat kit, but painting the base is a must. I love how it is modular, and wonder if the instructions make it obvious that the framework entranceway was a later real-world add-on (the original building, with angled front counter windows raising into the "flying roof", is styled typical of post-war architecture; the square entrance destroys this continuity).
Now ask yourself: How many ice cream cones would you have to sell, to pay for the FOURTEEN FEET TALL metal atop the Thirty-foot sign?!
Not enough, most of the time...
AFTER:

We can see what the decades have wrought. Happily the place stays open, for new owners and residents alike. The burned out sign - an anachronism with massive power bills if it still worked - hints at glory days and optimism. Business no longer booming, at least the cheap framwork entranceway was removed. There might be life in the old soldier yet...

Both kits were found loose. I have one more MIB.

| Nice work...reminds me of the old "Twin Kiss" root beer stand near my house from years back.

Nice weathering and aging on that kit...really looks like a rundown old business.

Did you find these at the haunt? You find interesting things at the haunt. I had to go near Pitts. PA about 1hr 45min away, to drop of a laptop that needed a new main board, under warranty thank goodness, and I had hopes of finding a haunt of my own. I did locate a Silver Streak set, no track or trans, but that was it for the Tyco stuff. Nice project.
