Happiness is an E60. Double dipped on the fun today
with my bud Crusty, a 1:1 scale model railroader,
in between his runs, then off to iHop to sneak
glances at the pretty waitress over burgers
and coffee.

With a boxcab electric pulling a coal train through arid scenery, I just couldn't help but think of the Black Mesa and Lake Powell:

Cool video, I'd heard about BM&LD, but not seen any video
of it. The capacity of that train appears insanely enormous.
Did they leave any coal in the ground once all was said
and done?

Everything I've seen appears to say that the coal power plant was shut down because of competition from natural gas power plants. Presently, at least, natural gas prices are relatively low.

That would imply that the mine was probably not played out. It just lost its only customer.
