A British Hornby Toll House. This will become a canal scene on layout "Henley." The United Kingdom was, and still is, criss crossed by a myriad of canals that were the super highways prior to the introduction of railways. The canal companies fought the early railways bitterly to maintain their monopoly on freight traffic. Along came Stephenson and blew them all away. Many of the canals exist in pristine condition today and are enjoyed by the boating public recreationally.
