I am working on a plan to revamp my little portable layout that I can take to shows. It has had a few different themes over the years. Last one was a loop of Marklin HO with a pair of ATSF F7's and a German train. But, I want to do either a wild west theme or Civil War era layout using Tyco/Mantua stuff. The table is 33" deep by 55" wide as it has to fit in my Jeep Wrangler to go to shows that a friend doesnt attend with me(he has a pickup truck). So the curves are restricted to 15" radius to get a loop. I know the General will go around that. Not sure about the Dixie Belle and the 4-8-0, can anybody check that for me before I buy one? I can score a red box era General set that is like new for $150. A bit high maybe but has all the boxes and is in super nice condition. Here is a pic of the tables current track set up(Marklin C track). Table is covered with a nice grass mat(indoor/outdoor carpet. So a Civil War layout would be the easiest since grass is green in the south, where the wild west would need the nice grass mat removed. Not sure on building kits for that era of southern railroading though. Mike
This was taken at the Autism Ability Festival this spring, I had my G scale and HO running. The table is in storage right now.

Still NT's, I have Aspergers.

Looks real interesting, Cadetpwr. A Civil War display would be really interesting, I've only see it done once, and then only as a diorama.
You might want to take a look around out some of the HO scale Old West cardstock buildings that are now available. Cardstock was most memorably done back in the '70's by Suydam, and from my view it looked a little worse than Play Skool.
However, the new cardstock, which is widely used in Britain, has a level of detail one finds in the better kits at half the cost. Not hard to work with either.
BTW, I am mulling over that RDC. Is $75 your best price? You have some really nice pieces up there in the trading post.

Good luck on this project! A Civil War-themed layout would be incredible - especially one on such a small. portable scale.
Unfortunately, I do not own any Tyco steamers besides the Chattanooga....so I can't provide any insight there.

I measured what would fit in my Jeep. I can squeeze a 33" by 44in table top. Just fits between the roll bars and from front seats to just inside of the rear window. Must be light so I can manage it alone. Time to look for a hollow core door or other light weight but ridged surface.

| I had a tyco D&RG 4-8-0 which took 18" curves just fine. If your tracks have an 15" radius, it might be tight.

Kind of why I am leaning more toward a civil war theme with the smaller General. I know those can handle the tight curves I will have to use.
