Having sat in disuse for a couple of months, dust and oxide
crudded up the rails of Armadilloville. Using a Walthers, or
Model Power, not sure which it is, cleaning car as below,
and a few drops of Wahl's Hair Clipper Oil (credit to
professional model railroader Lionel Strange) I ran the
oiled scrap of paper towel once around the layout. In the
next half dozen or so passes, I ran a dry scrap of paper towel
under same track cleaning car. This is what I got back:

A close up:

I find no slippage from drive wheels, and the track remains fairly
oxide free for months. No damage to traction tires or plastic.

I've had success with it, and I've tried about everything.
Track cleaning is something that most model rail heads
hold near and dear, but I hadn't come across any of them
that worked a hoot. The guy that wrote an article on
this was Lionel Strange, a British professional model
railroader who did some stunning work in modeling
HOn 2 1/2.
