Not only do I get the dates wrong for Amtrak's inception, and a lot of other stuff
(calling Alco's EMD's and verse vise), but I managed to cap it off by buying this
turkezoid of eBay.
I was looking for a POWERED SW1500 to power up the Varney train, and even after
carefully reviewing the posting, I still ended up bidding, and winning this UNpowered
SW1500. I seem to manage to put the DUMB in dummy some days.
I can only imagine that I wanted[i] a "powered"
BB switcher, so I [i]saw the word "powered" when it said
"unpowered" all along.
Interesting factoid: pilots would often see "3,000 feet" when the
altimeter showed "300 feet" in front of a mountain range in poor
visibility. The outcomes tended to be poor. That is why there is so
much gadgetry in modern airliners.
Lucky for me, I always get a good deal from RP the Sharkmaster.
Up on eBay with a starting bid of 99 cents, or Buy It Now for $10.
