My SOTW is this Lionel Confederation Flyer from 1970. As I was helping sort through a large donation at my club, I came across this set. I've always wanted one, and I took it home for a song. Have any of you repowered any of these to pull more? It can barely move the 10 cars and caboose.

I only have the loco from that set! I think the Tyco cars & loco would look good with that set

Wah hoo! That is an amazing set, and as a Canadian piece, a real sweet find.
You will probably burn out the motor if you try to haul it, I know from hard experience. Best option would be to run it a few cars at a time, or at minimum double head it. Putting more weight in the diesel will likely cause the motor to overheat.
One could try adding a small tab of plastic safe lubricant to each of the 88 journal boxes, which I do on a lot of my Tyco stuff, and that will lower rolling resistance, but may not make enough of a difference. I'd favor running five cars at a time, max.
I took a Tyco Shark and threw away the chassis and its rotten PT motor, and took a Model Power Shark chassis, and with the help of Wildecoupe, had it milled down and fit well into the Tyco shell. It wouldn't pull diddly squat before, but you can see what it does here:

Prolly in my junk box. I've learned to be careful about throwing stuff away. Getting some shelves put up in the garage to hold all my Tycomania. It all started when I got that Tyco Pipe Unloader as a "joke gift" a few years back. Little did I know then what a **** storm that would set off. Slippery Slope indeed. Still, I have the sense that your collection must be staggering.
