Hello All, I’m back after some time (now semi-retired!) and have a question today about Tyco streamline passenger cars. Is there any idea or consensus on what, if any, prototype these cars were based on? I know they are too short, and don’t particularly look like anything specific, but is there a supposed prototype that was the inspiration? Thanks,

Tyco copied and shortened Gilbert's streamlined passenger cars. I guess you'd have to look for a prototype for them. The first two years they released streamlined passenger cars they were Gilbert one with non Gilbert paint schemes. This was discussed here a few times in the past. frank

Thanks, Frank. On another note, I just picked up a trio of aluminum cars with the blue and yellow ‘Tyco Streamliner’ decals above the windows. Wouldn’t mind getting more info on those. I’m guessing late ‘50’s since they have the old Mantua loop couplers.

They might be shortened fluted-side Pullmans like the Athearn cars are

Hard to tell from the angle, but this page https://www.hoseeker.net/tycoinformation/tycocatalog50page3.jpg seems to indicate either the diesel shark or 4-6-2 steamer, possibly both.

So, do you sell me the Shark, or do I sell you the cars!

Bought this lot recently and did some minor touch up on the decals...still having trouble posting my own pics—never used to have any problem, don’t know what changed!
