Apparently there is a "Cat Cafe" in Japan that features three of my favorite things, model trains, cats, and tasty food! I like how the proprietors allow the cats and the layout to peacefully coexist. On a technical note, the human servants must spend a lot of time vacuuming the layout in order to keep the cat hair from getting into the N scale locomotive mechanisms!

I recall an Army chum, newly stationed in Korea. Having
some leave, he perused the open air markets of Seoul,
where he encountered a vendor selling cats. Thinking
he might enjoy one for some feline company, he
purchased one. The vendor took his money, bowed, and
disappeared behind a curtain for a minute, and
reemerged bearing his new pet wrapped in newspaper,
headless, skinned, and gutted. They also sell puppies.

This is Hershey. He was my faithful companion for 12 years. The puppy of a friend's dog, we first met him the day he was born, and he came to live with us as soon as he was old enough to leave his mother. Here he is seen watching me while we were waiting a train on the former Monongahela Railway in southwestern Pennsylvania. Sadly, he passed away a couple of months after this photo was taken. Losing a pet can be harder than losing a family member. You don;t have to dig a hole and bury them, so the death of a pet hits home in ways that loss of a family member never will. Hershey was a true mountain dog who loved to run free in the woods, never straying far from us but exploring his surroundings with great pleasure. Even though we now have another dog, Hershey can never be replaced, and he is deeply missed.

My beloved Reeves, the Siamese cat who graced many an end credit, passed away peacefully
from old age. Within a week, Yui, the black female my daughter deposited after finding her
loose at a rest area in the middle of nowhere, gave birth to four healthy kittens!

My original Siamese, Chopsticks, passed away five years ago, and his buddy, Reeves and
I became very close. Then Reeves joined Chops in the great litter box in the sky a few
short months ago, also succumbing from old age. The along comes Yui, another rescue
cat, who jumped into my daughter's car as she drove the Hellish distance from San Antonio
to El Paso, at a rest area. Knowing I could never say no to a stray cat of good temper,
we took her in, and voila she dropped a litter of four kittens: Biff, Boom, Bang, and Burp.
Regrettably, Boom didn't make it out of kittenhood, but the other three are thriving.
Now have all these kittens biting my toes and running about.

Great cat video, reminds me of Snoopy and "Stupid Cat Next Door."

This is Biff, who, with his litter mates, was born March 15 of this year. After careful study of
all of them, I chose Biff as my next cat, having lost our beautiful and sweet Reeves a month
before to old age. Before Reeves, there was my namesake, Chopsticks, from which I derive
my nom-de-plume.

I found a cat loving home, and was able to adopt out the surviving two other kittens and the
mother and stayed with Biff, hoping he would develop into a loving grown up cat. He has
surpassed all hope and expectation and is a wonderful new friend. He has this long, luxurious
fur that is soft as ermine, he is delightfully affectionate. Lucky me!
