My Set of The Week offering is a group of Interlake Vulcanian Railroad engines I purchased several years ago. Attached are the original listing photos I recently discovered in my Yahoo mail sent items...
For those who do not know the history.. the IV RR was created by Charles Martin and featured in Model Railroader issue, Volume 39, Number 10, October 1972

Major strong collection, Mustang, all of these pieces are unknown to me before this posting. The set has a strong John Allen kind of feel about it, and John Allen was at the top of his game.
My SOTW was largely inspired by a recent posting by Rick Tanner, showing off his very cool DGRW Tyco Passenger Coach set. The muted brown color, the all metal construction- had to have it and sure enough they popped up on eBay, and after tussling a bit on the price, got the group down to $40. One coupler busted at the shank during shipping, will require tedious drilling and such to repair it, finding the right sized screw and bolt to close the coupler box. Dying to give it a test run soon.
The F unit I got for $5, and it had a crappy PT motor in it that I pulled out and replaced it with a solid old MU motor. I don't know if has quite the guts to pull five cars, I would be pleased if she could do a three car string. For the five, I filched a nice Athearn F for the really heavy lifting.
I wonder who was the lucky kid who found this under the tree...

| Chops, that streamliner has been painted by a previous owner, yes? I've never seen Rio Grande in brown like that. It looks good though! Nice find!

Worthy of investigation, Da Cheez. The pinstripes I doubt were painted on, and they match the brown. If memory doesn't fail me, as it so often does, Ricky Tanner posted a set of RGW Tyco coaches identical to these not so long ago. Will have to try to find that post. Interesting question, though, and thank you.

Yes, The silver areas on the cars have been repainted brown it seems.
Here are the cars I picked up. There are two major variations of the Rio Grande passenger consists as you can see two of the cars have the lower panels painted in yellow.

Well, I'll be _____________ (fill in the blank). The pin striping on Ricky's pieces are brown, thus explaining how that came about. Looking them over again, I do now see tiny bits of over spray and under spray here and there. I wonder what possessed the original owner to go to all this trouble? Still, they do look nice, even though they resemble shoe leather.
Nearest thing I could find, were these, by Marklin:

| Yes. Definitely were painted. I was thinking about buying them and refinishing the silver to have a set to operate but you grabbed them before I got around to making an offer. Nice pickup... 😉
