Here's my SOTW offering:
A set of 5 awesome billboard cars, in their original boxes, by Tyco! This lot was originally an auction that someone suggested to me, because it contained the elusive Pepsi-Cola 62' box car, and the overall starting bid was good. I actually declined in my mind to bid on it, and thus figured someone else would snag it. Nevertheless, in searching on Ebay last week, I found the exact same listing which had been newly relisted as a Buy-It-Now for $25.00. Seizing the opportunity, I bought this set immediately, and they just arrived e mail today. Below is the lineup from top to bottom:
- Sara Lee 62' Express Reefer - Chew Tobacco 50' box car - Old Dutch Cleanser covered center-flow hopper - S.O.S. 62' box car - Pepsi-Cola 62' box car
Stay tuned for further updates on these cars to be soon operated on RETRO TYCO.

RP,
At $5 per box, and they look to be in great shape, you got yourself a good deal.
Here is my SOTW. I had a drs appointment and decided to stop by my LHS to see what was new. They had just purchased a lot of boxes and I was the first customer to browse the new pile of goodies. Today was my lucky day.
Here is a Tyco T-6904-A Penn Central set in almost new condition for only $45. The set is missing a box of track and a yellow filler, but I'm hoping to pick them up at the Timonium MD show next month. I plan to repair the cellophane on two boxes when I have time.

Nice PC score Brian!
Here's my SOTW offering... The Gilbert #30743 Old Smokey set from 1963. The scarce Trap Rock gondola in this set is absolutely perfect. Very hard to find set especially in this condition.

RP, The 2 Penn Central A-B Engines that I have (not part of the set box) are nicely boxed and in great condition, but have cracked wheels. This seems to be a defect with the Penn Central engines that I've seen online and at train shows. I haven't figured out how to swap the wheel in this type of truck. Is your B unit boxed and in VG+ condition?
bad71burb, I've seen many a set with a humpback gondola. Nice score. Are you looking to sell?

Brian, my Penn Central F7 is an "A-unit" and I'm not sure if it has cracked wheels or not (I have seen this problem before too) but it is not boxed, so.......

Chops / RP,
Thanks for the feedback on cracked wheels, as I thought there may be a flaw with the Tyco Penn Central diesels. FMI, were you able to fix the issue, or just let the engine run with that awful (in my opinion) noise.

I somehow missed seeing that PC set. If you hear a funny noise on the horizon, don't be alarmed. It is just me gnashing my teeth and rending my garments in jealousy. The cracks aren't bad enough yet to interfere with their operation, but I think a tiny drop of super glue would stabilize them enough to keep them running for decades.
The traction tires will likely be dry rotted, and may disintegrate after a few laps. This is easily, sort of, and cheaply, definitely fixed by buying Goodies brand rubber hair bands, available at Walmart and other fine establishments. They might come in various sizes, but use the smallest ones to replace the bands. The might go on twisted, but will soon level out after a few laps. They cost about a dollar and you get like a jillion of them to last you forever.
The hard part is prising off the truck side frames so that you don't snap off the plastic pegs that affix them to the motor chassis. If that happens, and it very likely will, a couple of dabs of Liquid Nails, or other epoxy, will glue them back on very nice. If you have to go back in, you can dissolve the expoxy with a little acetone (nail polish remover) and gently pry them off.
I have several PC Tyco units, and I've only seen them with the MU2 motor, which was the last time Tyco made a decent, durable motor. Lubricate sparingly, and it may last decades. If, perchance, it is the cruddy PT motor, make plans to throw it away and replace it with an MU2 power truck.
You made a major score there at $45. To me, it is priceless. Here is a short video of my beloved PC set setting the pace at the Train Club Layout. It performed flawlessly hour after hour. It is one of my very favorite vids. BTW, the track level effects was created by chasing it with a Hotwheels Video Cam mounted on a flat car and chasing the trains on an adjacent track or running out just in front of it. This is why I am PSYCHO FOR TYCO.

Thanks Brian. Everything in the set is pristine. If I end up with an extra one, I'll consider selling or trading. Right now I have two of the Trap Rock gondolas, one in the seperate sale red/white box and the one in the boxed set. Both cars are straight and unbroken. I'm still looking for the painted version. Both of mine are unpainted plastic.
On a side note, did you ever find the boxed 423 NP A unit you were looking for? If not, send me a text to my phone reminding me to dig out my NP stuff to get you pics.

Chops,
Thanks for the detailed information. I'll experiment on a beat up engine before moving on to the PC engine. Although noisy, my PC is a good runner.
bad71burb, I'll contact you.
Thanks all, Brian
