I recently finished making a ferry slip headwork using coffee stirrers and I made a short 4 minute video about it. The ferry slip on my layout butts up against a wall but I wanted more than just a backdrop to indicate the headwork.

I painted it with gray primer but I'm thinking of giving it a coat of aluminum so it looks like painted metal.

The prototype still exists near Pier 52 in San Francisco. It belonged to the Santa Fe.
