I can't recall who has this CP switcher. It was an HO version, almost identical to this Lionel, with only a few small differences.

Someone on this forum posted a similar HO scale. It was a few years ago. The picture I posted is the one I found while trying to identify the OP's loco. Forget that it's O scale and Lionel.

I would say that's it. It's that distinctive stack. It was also painted in CP maroon & gray. Thanks.

| It must have been a custom? Never seen a Stubby painted CPR. Gotta say, it's a cute little loco though. It'd look awesome in Maroon & Grey.

The Lindsay would fit the bill. Rare model at best. Great runner as well.

I love the Stubby! I have a couple or three of my own.
There are two pictured here:

I have a third in need of restoration and is not pictured. They are fairly dependable runners because the the good quality Lindsay motors they used.

I like the sand pipes in the image of the ad photo. Makes me think that these models that they used in the ad photos must be out there some where. It would be neat to land one to add to the collection someday.

**Sean, I never noticed the sand pipes till you mentioned them. I went to my Kemtron 1957-1958 catalog and Found another 2 adds for the stubby in HO. There is a separate one for HOn3.
* First one shows one with details added.

* The second one shows the parts breakdown sheet.

* The first add showing the sand pipes. None of the others do. So this detail was added to the model used in the add by a Kemtron model maker. It is something anybody can add to any diesel. frank

I think you would want it as a 2-4-2, as an 0-4-0 the loco would be up and down like a yoyo above 20 MPH, especially with all that overhang!

One time I was trying to start a heavy train uphill on wet, muddy rails with this short wheel base engine:
It was just slipping its wheels, so I put some sand on the rails. When it came into the load, it rocked back so far that the rear coupler came out the bottom of the slightly high coupler of the cold steam engine dead heading behind it.
I waited a couple of hours for the rails to dry and it was able to lean into the load a bit more gracefully.
