Hi everyone,

Apologies if I've put this in the wrong forum - but would like to know if anyone has any tricks for getting linkage on the Chattanooga 2-8-0 so that it doesn't bind as much.

Got my wife's old unit running again (the little gear on the motor in the tender had been lost years ago -- was able to transplant the gear from a donor off of eBay and we now have it moving).

The next issue to solve is that the steam linkage binds up about once every rotation -- and really slows the whole thing down. I've looked, and the cause of the binding is not obvious to me.

Thanks :)

If it does it every time around, it could be a driver that has is out of quarter. You can check by
rotating the drivers until they bind and then see if all of the drivers are at the same place with
the driver rod (like the rod is at the bottom on all drivers).

Thanks for the good suggestion. Did check this - and the quarter position of the drivers looks pretty good. That did give me another idea for something to check -- the smoke ratchet. But, that seems to be moving pretty smoothly.

The more I look at it, the more I think the linkage up near the "pistons" is where the trouble is situated. I think there is binding there. Going to try lubricating the surfaces of the linkage to see if that helps out.

Thanks :)
