I have just taken ownership of a Tyco 2-8-0 Royal Blue and wanting to add DCC to run on my sons layout. It appears that the power source is split between the tender and loco, is there a link/advise that someone can offer?

Travis , I've never done a DCC transplant on a Tender drive Tyco before, but as long as the motor casing is isolated from either power wire, you can still hook up the Decoder to the split wiring easily enough. Just splice in the orange and gray to the motor side, and the red and black to the split track pick-up wires ( cut the wires in half to do it, obviously, if that's easier to do ). Been awhile since I took my Royal Blue apart to look at it. Seems to me though that the wire to the tender PT motor goes through the casing, might have to isolate it with a plastic screw to the brush contact metal. I know the standard PT motor is NOT isolated ( will burn up a decoder ), not sure on the tender drive RB version, but again, a plastic screw to the brush contact will isolate it usually. I'd have to look at mine again to be sure. Not srue where it is at the moment, either.
