Yes, got it from Tin Plate Henry for about $4. That Wonder Bread was in an Ebay auction. I got a little crazy for that one.

Now for some old Varney box cars. 40' Double door outside braced automobile cars. About the oldest that Varney has made. I have 3, all lettered for 3 different roads. After taking these photos I stored them in my trash pail. I did remove the trucks. frank

Yep that is the one, It went from the kitchen , and didn't go out to the big one outside. My wife dumped this morning coffee grinds on top of them already. With them are some other old Varney cars of the same . A 60' double door Auto car, and a 60' 4 bay hopper. I almost keep the hopper. I could be fixed but most likely not cleaned as it has real bad nicotine accumulations.

I was thinking of the buss with this odd ball old timer kit. A Colorado Southern reefer also lettered for the Burlington. Also what appears to be a work car made by Varney but isn't. it is a early Walters that copies the embossing Varney style of car.

The Colorado & Southern only operated independently for 10 years between 1898-1908. After 1908 they functioned as a part of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy up until the BN merger in 1981.
Also, toptrain, if you ever come across some real basket case Silver Streak kits, notify me, I'd be willing to pay for some parts I need to complete my own basket cases

Ya know, there are plenty of us here who love reworking old cardstock car bodies, and wouldn't mind paying postage for them if all you're going to do is throw them in the garbage.

I've never heard of nicotine as a weathering agent before. That actually looks pretty good. I'd throw down a coat of clear finish on that one.

Here is an interesting bargain bin piece I found. I built it up this weekend (finally some time to myself/trains).

In this post here https://www.reddit.com/r/modelmakers/comments/4sr7kk/tales_of_syrian_t62/ the author says that he used a mixture of MiG weathering powders, cigarette ash, glue, and crushed pastels.

Augh! Tell me they're not thrown out... those are not Varney kits! They're Comet Models auto boxcars from the late 30s! I've been trying to find the C&EI one although I have the other two! Good grief!

The cars were doing OK in the trash can till my wife dumped the coffee grinds on them. Yep, that was their final moment. Their done for. They've been picked up and sent on there way to the place where Old train car 's reside. That last freight yard somewhere beyond the rainbow. I hope they'll be happy there . frank

If you should ever find yourself considering tossing some really the other dark meatty old cars again, please do send them my way, I can make anything and I mean ANYTHING operable again and it's a shame for them to go to waste!
