I have spent most of my weekend outside starting my G scale set-up. My backyard is uneven as it slopes-so i had to shovel to get track level and i have spread 1500lbs of p gravel for ballast so far and need a little more to get track level. The video will show below. It is far from being complete though. I am using Aristocraft stainless steel track.

Very Cool...who doesn't look at their backyard and dream about having a G-scale operation...nice to see somebody getting in there and doing it!
Really like the cut into the ground...hope you've got some drainage plans for that area.
The night scenes are very cool.
Great Start!

| Thanks for the comments. I went yesterday and picked up 3,000 lbs more of the p gravel. My 79 F250 4X4 was squatting a little with that load but the springs weren't maxed out- but close. No problem hauling that load with a gas guzzling 460-and it drank some gas with that weight as it was 17 miles to the landscape supply and 17 miles back to my house. My mpg was around 5. I will take some pictures of the slope in my yard as this is why so much gravel for ballast. Working in the real world enviorment is very different than setting up smaller scales on plywood and such. The drainage shouldn't be a problem through the cut as it is sloped slightly-true test will be when it rains. I have been told eveything is trial and error in the outdoor g gauge world. One thing is for sure- i have a solid ballast foundation. If i use all of the gravel in the back of my truck-the total lbs will be 4500-roughly a ton+

Wow... great stuff! Is there any reason you went for a canyon look and not above-ground? Not criticizing, just curious. It would be a good start for a tunnel, actually... which would be very cool.
Hard to believe it takes that much gravel. I know two people who've built garden layouts and they're a lot of upkeep... weeds and overgrowth just like a 1:1 line. But you can do some neat things with landscaping...
...and koi ponds [:D]

Was unable to log on to this site on may 29th-said web page down?? I will get some photo's up hopefuly saturday- Work has been very busy. Hang in there Mike and Rush2NY. G-I-C- the canyon cut is due to my back yard. The track is laid on sloping ground-the pictures i am going to post will show reason for that and for the massive amount of gravel to get track close to level as can be. Your thoughts are as mine on the cut-a future tunnel and yes--i am looking into a water system from lowes also-possibly in the fall for that. The hotter it gets the less i will be working hard on it. The current measurements are 9ft wide X 13.5 ft long track wise- i have a lot more room for expansion as my lot is nearly an acre front and back.
