Trainfest 2016 in Milwaukee Wisconsin was awesome, for those of you who couldn't make it, here are a few pictures of the big event....

Here are some pictures of the main building...

The show was so huge, it spilled over into a second building!!!

The venue was large enough to accommodate a live steam sized indoor railroad!!!

Several G scale layouts were displayed...

This was just one of several huge HO scale layouts...

The smallest layouts fit inside suitcases!!!

There were several areas where children could run model trains, these signs were posted at locations that were offering "hands on experience"...

In this area, children could try their hand at switching using a G scale version of John Allen's "Timesaver" layout...

Or for the kids who wanted more excitement there was a Lionel "Train Race" layout!!!

And for those who wanted to take a break from all the walking, they could sit down and listen to live music...

And last but not least, there was a train composed entirely of rebuilt Tyco plug door boxcars running on one layout...

The picture doesn't do this train justice, here is a video of the same train...

All in all it was a great time, hope to see you at Trainfest 2017!!!

No one noticed that the cars were old Tyco's until I told them, a couple people needed to hold them in their hands before they would even believe me!

The only thing that gives these cars away are their roof walks which most people didn't notice.

Incidentally I spoke to a representative of Rapido Trains during Trainfest about making a "Silver Streak" version of Canadian Pacific's "Canadian" in HO scale. Interestingly the rep told me that Rapido has already approached the movie studio that owns the rights to the movie about getting permission to use the "AmRoad" graphics on some HO models. Sadly the movie executives wanted a ton of money for licensing fees which Rapido could not aford.

I suggested that they keep negotiating with the movie studio or at the very least produce an unlettered version of the "Canadian" so that we modelers could make our own "Silver Steak" trains with home made graphics.
Will have to wait and see...

Here are few more pictures from Trainfest, I really liked these models...

Runaway Train

Silver Streak

Conjunction Junction

Movie and TV show prototypes are seldom modeled from scratch so these pieces are very interesting.
