A homemade accessory connector block. Haven't drilled any screwholes for connecting stuff to it yet but the main work is done.

So, someone on the TF made mention of this device; which is great, because I'd never heard of it before. On Amazon you can get just the little car and the particular USB cord for as little as $16 plus shipping, or the entire kit, which is just some strap-on device if you want to stick it on a bike helmet, etc, for $26 and free shipping.
This is a boon to model railroaders, I believe it could be made to work for N, with a little work, and certainly it easily adapts to HO and bigger. All one has to do is what I did: secure it with a wad of electrical tape, onto a spare flat car, and let her rip. In this case I used a Tyco flat that wasn't being used, and pushed it along with an Athearn SW 1500 flywheel drive for reliability.
I wish the focus was sharper, but could probably improve it to shoot at 60 frames a second instead of 30, which are the two options that come with this mini recorder. The sound is surprisingly good for such a small microphone. So one needs to be careful with expletives if a derailment or a stall occurs!
One can use this device to record a myriad of possiblities: a brief comedic skit (my favorite), or a collage of your layout, or a prototypical move. I hope other TF'ers will join me in this most interesting aspect of sharing your work. Please PM me to share tips or if you would like a step-by-step walk through how to make it work and how to download to UTube (I am a computer dinosaur by upbringing, but have since come to learn that a computer is just like any mechanical device in that you have to follow a set regimen of steps to get it do what you want).
Here's my first video experiment. More to come. Much more to come.

| Cool video Jeff. That 30 frames per second must be just distorted enough to make everything look real [or surreal]. Pretty fine.
