I am trying to find the meaning of the white posts that one would see along the way of railway road beds...These were concrete pillars, usually 5-6 feet high, 8-10 inches wide, always painted white with black horizontal (bars) or stripe(s) on them...I am sure the stripes indicated something related to the road...ANYBODY know ?? Thanks

Sounds like a whistle post, seems like every American railroad had their own idea of what they should look like.

| Kinda figured that as they were placed just prior to crossings here on the coast in Eastern N.Carolina....They were everywhere at one time but as the tracks were taken up I guess everthing else went too...Would have looked nice as a driveway marker...Thanks !
